Melvor Idle, for reference
Made by Games by Malcs and published by Jagex, Melvor Idle takes the skills of RuneScape and lets them run on their own: more than 20 skills, combat, and three expansions at $4.99 each. Its last game update came out at the end of 2024; its makers are now working on Melvor Idle 2, planned for early access on Steam in 2026.
Idle Clans
Melvor Idle with other people around: almost 20 skills, combat, and an economy run by the players. Clans share upgrades, a house and their fights against bosses. In early access on Steam since April 2023, where reviews are mostly positive.
Milky Way Idle
A browser MMO where you queue up actions that keep running for ten hours or more while you are offline. You level skills, gather, craft and fight, then trade on a player marketplace and join a guild. Its Steam reviews are mixed.
Legends of IdleOn
Several characters at once, classes to unlock and 20 skills, from farming to sailing and construction. Everything can be reached without paying; optional purchases bring boosts and pets. Made to be played for years, with mostly positive reviews on Steam.
IdleMMO
From the makers of SimpleMMO: hunts, dungeon expeditions and world bosses that carry on while you are away, alongside other players. Still in open beta.
Idle Iktah
Leveling up in the Pacific Northwest: 18 skills, local plants and animals, items that change with the phase of the moon, and a real tide tracker for the Oregon coast. An optional one-time upgrade removes the ads on mobile and lets progress run for up to seven days. In early access on Steam since April 2026, with mostly positive reviews.
Farm RPG
Fewer skills, more farm: crops, fishing, crafting and exploring, in a game played through menus, with a community that trades. Melvor Idle players often name it as their other favorite. On Steam since June 2026, with very positive reviews.
GraveacreOURS
The same loop as Melvor Idle (pick a skill, let the clock work, come back to a full bag), in a valley where the dead walk, with a story to follow. 19 skills for gathering, crafting and fighting, 517 items, 150 written encounters that wait for your answer while you are away, a refuge to build, and a horde every 2 to 4 nights. The game keeps going for 12 hours while closed, up to 22 with the refuge’s generator. Everything is free, and nothing you could pay for makes you progress faster.
Where Melvor Idle does better: years of content and three expansions, more skills, a large community with its own wiki, apps on Steam and on the phone stores, and progress that runs longer while you are away (24 hours, according to its players). Graveacre is new and still growing.

Under a dead streetlight, a thin man in an oversized suit jingles a canvas bag. Something clacks inside, like castanets. He smiles with all his teeth, not all of them his own. “Dentures? I buy. Better than the lady at the crossroads, who says she doesn’t buy them.”
He examines them one by one by the light of a match, clacks them next to his ear, and pays cash on the nail. “If you find more, you know where to find me. At night.”
